RESCUE CAT was born in the summer of 2006 near Muswell Hill in North London. He is influenced by the music minicab drivers play at 4am when you're heading home, wrapped in a warm blanket of drugs and alcohol. Heart, Magic, Smooth FM... And has already made Indie Dad's top 50 best tracks of 2008 twice alongside bands such as the Joy Formidable and the Chapman Family.
THE LAUREL COLLECTIVE remain an exciting new band for 2009. New songs like 'Hindenburg Mile High Club' reiterated the fact that these guys really do stand apart from London's melee of young, indie bands, while old favourites like 'International Love Affair' reminded us just what good song-writers they are. Fortunately, you'll be pleased to hear that we're promised world domination this year.
Frizz Records Showcase Featuring:
JOY JOSEPH (Mr Hudson)'s solo style shows off the eclectic range of her influences and her varied musical experience, with elements of Roots Reggae, Dancehall and Lovers' Rock, House and Electro, R&B and vintage Soul and Jazz. She cites her major influences as including Kassav, Alexander D Great, Ella Fitzgerald, Astrud Gilberto, Bob Marley, Soul 2 Soul, Tony Allen, Janet Kay and Carol Thompson, and she certainly betrays elements of all of these, but what distinguishes her is the strength of her personality which enables her to create something fresh out of what inspires her. This is just the beginning...
Sounding like hot treacle on broken glass, LEILA ADU has been described as 'Nina Simone for the noughties'. Praised by critics and fans alike, Leila Adu explores the dissonant edges of familiar forms with a voice that is simply incomparable.
